This service provides comprehensive assessment of thinking, emotional, and behavioural skills (e.g., memory, mood, self-control) for people with epilepsy and other neurological disorders where seizures are a main symptom. The assessment helps identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses to assist with diagnosis, surgical decision-making, and / or help provide recommendations for rehabilitation, return to school / work, and improving daily functioning.
You will receive a letter with your appointment time and location, as well as information on how to prepare for the appointment.
The assessment may take 2-6 hours to complete and usually takes place over the course of one full day. The assessment will involve an intake interview and paper and pencil testing to assess your thinking skills. In some cases, parts of the assessment, or the entire assessment, may be completed virtually.
There will be a follow-up appointment to discuss your assessment results and recommendations.
Referrals are accepted from physicians or nurse practitioners in Nova Scotia Health Neurology and Neurosurgery clinics, or from neurology specialists in the community.
