NSHA’s 7,000 volunteers provide support through more than 900 volunteer programs across the province. Ranging in age from 15 to 95, volunteers lend their time, talents and compassion to create a caring and supportive environment for our patients, clients and families.
In 2017-18, volunteers were welcomed into NSHA’s orientation program, providing them the same foundation our new employees experience. Volunteer Services also launched a volunteer recognition tool to help staff recognize volunteers throughout the year.
In an effort to recruit more French-speaking volunteers to help meet the needs of French-speaking patients, Volunteer Services worked with French-language Services to develop recruitment and application materials in French.
NSHA Volunteer Services supported more than 80 high school co-op students during the 2017-18 academic year. These partnerships across the province have helped develop learning opportunities across a broad spectrum of health care settings. In addition to the high school co-op program is the high school volunteer program that exists all year around.
