Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with Nova Scotia Health Authority

From Oct. 1 to Oct. 7, Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) invites you celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

Knowing that breastfeeding is an important start to a healthy life for most Canadian newborns, NSHA is joining the IWK Health Centre, community partners and Breast Feeding Canada to celebrate breastfeeding with fun and informative events across the province.

Here are the events planned in Nova Scotia for World Breastfeeding Week:

Annapolis Valley, South Shore and South West

Friday, Oct. 4:

  • 10-11:30 a.m. – Story time at Annapolis Royal Library on Ritchie Stret.

Saturday, Oct. 5:

  •  3-5 p.m. – World Breastfeeding Week celebration at Yarmouth Mall on Starrs Road.

Cape Breton, Guysborough and Antigonish area

Thursday, Oct. 3:

  • 9 a.m. – Information booth at Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.

Friday, Oct. 4:

  • 10 a.m.-12 p.m. – Celebration at Chadabucto Lifestyle Complex on Green Street in Guysborough.

Saturday, Oct. 5:

  • 10:30 am  – Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge at Inverness Family Place.
  • 10:30 am – Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge at Mayflower Mall on Grand Lake Road in Sydney.

Monday, Oct. 7:

  • 12 p.m. – Paint Lunch at Sobeys on Prince Street in Sydney (Call 902-567-7261 to register).
  • 10 a.m.-12 p.m. – Keepsake handprint craft session at Bras d’Or Lakes Day Centre in Baddeck.

Colchester-East Hants, Cumberland and Pictou areas

Tuesday, Oct. 1:

  •  Registration for prenatal breastfeeding classes for the October session at Kids First Family Resource Centre on Provost Street in New Glasgow.

Wednesday, Oct. 2:

  • 6:30 p.m. – La Leche League Canada, a mother-to-mother support group, is holding a meting at Kids First Family Resource Centre on Provost Street in New Glasgow.

Thursday, Oct. 3:

  • Demos at Sobeys Aberdeen and Sobeys Westside in New Glasgow.
  • 3-4 p.m. – Latch-in at Maggie’s Place Family Resource Centre on Elm Wood Drive in Amherst.
  • 5-8 p.m. – MILK film showing and panel discussion at Colchester-East Hants Public Library on Prince Street in Truro.

Sunday, Oct. 6:

  • 1-3 p.m.  – Latch-on at Cotton Tale Café and Play on Commercial Street in New Minas.

Halifax area, Eastern Shore and West Hants

Saturday, Oct. 5:

  • 10 a.m.-12 p.m. – Family Fair at the IWK Health Centre.
