Nova Scotia Health Authority welcomes 30 Accreditation Canada surveyors to ensure highest standards, best practices in province’s health care system being met

This week, Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) is hosting 30 surveyors from Accreditation Canada who are in the province to assess our services against national standards of excellence.

We at Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) are committed to providing high-quality care and continually improving our services. Participating in an accreditation program is a key way we measure our performance.

The team of surveyors, from other health care organizations across the country, are spread out across Nova Scotia visiting units, departments, clinics and facilities to learn more about NSHA and the services we offer. They will follow the patient’s journey through the health system, chat with staff and physicians, meet with community partners and speak with patients and families. They will be determining how we comply with specific practices and whether our policies and procedures are consistent with standards and best practices.

Accreditation is a snapshot of how well an organization is doing at a given point in time. Following the survey visit, the team will provide an accreditation report that will identify the things we are doing well and also areas where we need to improve. We will then use that information to continue our quality improvement efforts.

Hear more about the benefits of accreditation from four NSHA staff members who have served as surveyors visiting other organizations.

Accreditation Canada is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits health care organizations in Canada and around the world through a comprehensive accreditation program.
