Nova Scotia Health Authority welcomes public to first open board of directors meeting as part of commitment to accountability, transparency

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HALIFAX, N.S. – Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) welcomes members of the public to attend its board of directors meeting Wednesday, May 22 in Liverpool.

The meeting starts at 8:25 a.m. in the Brooklyn and Medway Rooms at the Best Western Plus Liverpool Hotel and Conference Centre on Queens Place Drive, with the public portion running until 11:50 a.m. and the in-camera session to follow after lunch.

This marks the first time that NSHA’s board meeting has been open to the public. As promised at NSHA’s annual general meeting last summer, the board of directors will hold regular meetings at least six times each fiscal year, with four of those to include public sessions, as part of NSHA’s commitment to accountability and transparency.

Agenda items for the morning of May 22 include a presentation titled Education: Research and Innovation in Health; information and discussion on physician recruitment; discussion on community heath boards and foundations in NSHA’s Western Zone; and a report from President and CEO Janet Knox on a broad range of operational matters.

Items discussed during in-camera sessions include confidential patient-specific issues, matters relating to specific board members or employees, other matters where personal information may be revealed or is prohibited under the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, human resources and labour relations matters, contract negotiations and disputes.

Members of the public can submit matters they think should be discussed to the board in writing to board@nshealth.ca or Nova Scotia Health Authority, 90 Lovett Lake Court, Suite 201, Halifax, N.S., B3S 0H6.

Members of the public and media who wish to attend the May 22 meeting are asked to RSVP by emailing board of director’s executive assistant Joanne Carter at board@nshealth.ca.
