As shared in November, mumps cases have been circulating in the Halifax area. The case total to date is 20 and Dr. Trevor Arnason, Medical Officer of Health for Halifax area, says it’s a good reminder for people to make sure they’re immunized.
Hospitals across the province are currently experiencing increased visits to emergency departments and demand for hospitalizations. There are a number of factors contributing to this, including influenza-like illness and injuries due to slips and falls. As a result there may be increased waits in emergency departments and temporary beds may be used to accommodate demand.
Visits are being restricted to the Maternal Child units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital because of an increase in cases of general respiratory illnesses among patients admitted to the hospital’s pediatric unit including influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
