    The Eastern Zone is seeking a 0.6 family physician to join an existing practice  based in Antigonish as well as a 0.4 family physician based out of St. Francis Xavier University, to provide primary care needs to students of the university, during the academic year.  The 0.4 would not be required during the dates the university closes for summer vacation and other university closures.  The 0.6 and 0.4 would be considered a 1.0 FTE (with the exception of the summer break for the university). There would be opportunity for coverage of colleagues’ practices in the summer, should a physician wish. Deliverables include running family practice office/clinics; providing care to the student population at the university, providing call coverage and caring for inpatients; optional services include obstetrics, OR assists, emergency medicine, long term care, and inpatient mental health.  Physicians are responsible for inpatient care, OR assists, and LTC coverage of their own patients.  Family physicians may also participate in teaching through the family medicine residency program based in Sydney and/or with medical students through Dalhousie University. Antigonish family physicians enjoy collegial relationships with specialists including general surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, pediatrics, plastic surgery, anesthesia, and otolaryngology. Our radiology department is extremely supportive and includes all imaging modalities from MRI to nuclear medicine.

    This opportunity could be considered 2 part time opportunities or 1 full time practice.

    The Nova Scotia Health Authority is currently seeking a full time Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to provide surgical and clinical care in Cape Breton.  Based at the Sydney Regional Hospital, the individual would be an autonomous, patient oriented, team player. Sub-specialty training and experience would be a welcome asset. 

    The OR has a new Zeiss microscope with Callisto Eye system for Premium IOLs, an Alcon phaco machine and an outstanding surgical support staff.  There is one full day per week of OR time available for local procedures. The ambulatory care centre has Zeiss Cirrus OCT, fluoroscein angiography, Argon and YAG lasers as well as excellent clinic support staff including a COMT and nursing.  One day per week is available for injections, lasers and minor procedures.  Orthoptic services are available locally. 

    The Ophthalmologist should be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. Support is available for site visits and relocation.

    The Eastern Zone has an opportunity for a full time Respirologist or a General Internist with interests in Respirology. Based in Antigonish, the internal medicine group currently includes a gastroenterologist, three general internists and has had a well-established respirology presence.  Inpatient call is equally shared and includes coverage of a 6-bed ICU. St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Specialists enjoy collegial relationships with family physicians who often cover their own patients in hospital and with the local complement of specialists including an extremely supportive radiology department. The hospital has had a presence in the community for over 100 years and has a strong reputation for compassionate care, concern for the vulnerable, and dedication to truly doing what is best for the patient – even when creative solutions are needed.

    Respirology Highlights:
    The outpatient respirology catchment area includes referrals from Truro to Inverness, and outreach clinics are at the discretion of the specialist.  Services include bronchoscopy, pulmonary function test and sleep study interpretation. Collaboration with the thoracic surgery team facilitates work-up and management of lung cancer; and the practice has historically included a clinical focus on COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, and cancer. Participation in the internal medicine call schedule is expected, and teaching of medical students and/or residents is at the discretion of the physician.
    Payment is fee-for-service, plus call stipends and incentives as per the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia. Clinic space is available in continuity with the hospital at low cost, with physicians having autonomous outpatient practice according to the schedule of their choice.  Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible to be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.  Support is available for site visits and relocation.

    The community of Guysborough has an opportunity for a full time family physician. This role is based out of the Guysborough Memorial Hospital, a 10 bed facility located 65 kms from St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. The hospital has a partnership with the Guysborough Youth Health Center and is adjacent to the Milford Haven Home for Special Care. This opportunity provides a guaranteed income through an APP contract. In patient care and ER coverage are required.

    We’re looking for a Respirologist to work in a collaborative team and provide ICU coverage, based at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney. Our zone is home to approximately 159 specialists, covering areas in internal medicine such as cardiology, respiratory, endocrinology, neurology, gastroenterology, physiatry, and nephrology.  The Cape Breton Regional Hospital has 325 beds, including five CCU beds and nine ICU beds. The ICU is a closed unit.
