  • Neuroradiologist: Halifax

    A diagnostic and interventional neuroradiologist is required to join a group of 35 radiologists, five of whom specialize in neuroradiology. The candidate will be an FRCPC, or equivalent, in Diagnostic Radiology and have a minimum two-year fellowship in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology. The candidate will be proficient in both neurointervention and imaging and will have a proven academic record.

    The QEII Health Sciences Centre is the largest tertiary care group of teaching hospitals in Atlantic Canada and part of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. It is the core adult clinical teaching facility for Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. There are active residency programs in Diagnostic Radiology, Neuroradiology and Nuclear Medicine. The department is affiliated with the Biomedical Translational Imaging Centre, a research institute conducting research in high field strength magnetic resonance imaging, magnetoencephalography and preclinical imaging devices and techniques.

Epidural service 24/7, support of other departments that would include ICU, ED PEDS for IV access and airway management. There would be shared call responsibilities with 4 FTE department members.Compensation will be through APP with deliverables.

    The Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow is a regional hospital providing a full range of health services. There are currently two ophthalmologists on staff. One ophthalmologist is retiring at the end of 2018 and the other is reducing to three days a week and will stop surgery. The surgical ophthalmologist currently has one full day of surgery a week and this surgical time will be available for an incoming ophthalmologist. 

    The ophthalmology practice is located in a large suite in the hospital where the two ophthalmologists share space. Each ophthalmologist has two fully equipped examining lanes. In addition to the four examining rooms, there is a shared waiting room, separate but shared reception areas, a pre screen room (shared), and SLT, YAG & diode lasers. Rent is very reasonable and includes cleaning, electricity, maintenance and one phone line through the hospital switchboard.

    Elsewhere in the hospital there is an ophthalmology unit staffed by one full time and one part-time (half-time) assistants who are both certified as Orthoptists and COMT and who both work exclusively on behalf of the ophthalmologists. In the eye unit there is a variety of equipment including a Humphrey Field Analyzer, Zeiss Cirrus OCT, Retina Camera with Fluorescein capability and a minor surgical suite. 

    The retiring ophthalmologist is looking for someone to take over his patients. He personally owns the equipment in his two examining rooms and he is interested in potentially giving the equipment away or disposing of it at a very reasonable price. The lasers, OCT, and all other equipment is owned and maintained by the hospital for the exclusive use of the ophthalmologists. 

    Start date is flexible but would preferably be at the end of 2018, however for summer of 2019 is possible. 

    The OR has a new Zeiss microscope, an Alcon phaco machine and an outstanding surgical support staff.

    The Ophthalmologist should be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.

  • Pathologist: Sydney

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cape Breton Regional Hospital seeks to recruit an experienced pathologist with Canadian certification in either anatomical or general pathology.  The successful applicant will join 5 other members of the medical / scientific staff in the department.

    Cape Breton Regional Hospital, located in Sydney,  is a secondary and tertiary health care institution and provides a broad range of medical care to patients in the Eastern Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.  The department handles over 15,000 surgical pathology specimens, 35-40 autopsies and 16,000 cytopathology specimens each year. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake clinical responsibilities in these services and a suitably qualified applicant will also have the opportunity to participate in the oversight of the clinical laboratories in Cape Breton Regional Hospital and in other communities in the Eastern Zone.

  • General Internist or Gastroenterologist: Antigonish

    We are seeking a full-time internist or gastroenterologist to join our group, based out of St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigoish. Our team currently includes a cardiologist and three general internists with expertise in cardiology, rheumatology, and endocrinology.  Inpatient call is equally shared and includes coverage of a 6-bed ICU.  St. Martha’s specialists enjoy collegial relationships with family physicians who often cover their own patients in hospital, and with our complement of specialists including general surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, pediatrics, plastic surgery, anaesthesia, and otolaryngology. Our radiology department is extremely supportive and includes all imaging modalities from MRI to nuclear medicine.
    Strong supports for internal medicine care include a nurse practitioner-led heart function clinic, a cardiac rehabilitation program, and an excellent diabetes education program.  Clinic space is available in continuity with the hospital at low cost, with physicians having autonomous outpatient practice according to the schedule of their choice.  

    A gastroenterologist (or internist with GI endoscopy training) would be offered 6-8 days of endoscopy per month, with the opportunity to take over the GI practice in a seamless transition if desired. A general internist with training in stress testing would also be most welcome. Call is equally divided among department members, and outpatient scheduling is at the discretion of the individual physician.

    Antigonish is nestled among the rolling hills of Nova Scotia, and is home to St. Francis Xavier University – including the Coady Institute for international development.     The Nova Scotia Health Authority has a full time position for a general paediatrician.  The position will be available as of July, 2018, in the university town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia.  A member of a group of 4 (sharing 3 FTE contracts), you will  be able to walk into a turnkey office practice with hospital privileges at St. Martha's Regional Hospital. The office is located adjacent to the hospital, which delivers approximately 400 babies annually. We have level 2 capability regarding newborn care and a small inpatient pediatric unit. We have excellent support available from all secondary level specialists and family physicians as well as hospitalists and mental health services.  We also have ready access to ENT, plastic surgery, and ophthalmology on site. Referral to tertiary care is 2 hours away at the IWK hospital in Halifax. Transport is easily accessed and we enjoy a close relationship with all subspecialty services at the IWK.

    Remuneration is APP, plus call stipends and other incentives as available through the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia. Support is available for site visits and relocation.

    We are recruiting 4 psychiatrists to join our team! The Department of Psychiatry provides service to Nova Scotia Health Authority’s Eastern Zone which covers Antigonish, Guysborough, and Cape Breton Island. This is a cohesive team with members from diverse backgrounds dedicated to providing quality care. The town of Antigonish has one inpatient mental health unit while the city of Sydney has three inpatient mental health units. We have inpatient withdrawal management/detox units in Richmond County and Sydney. Our inpatient and community outpatient teams consist of social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, and psychologists. In Cape Breton, satellite clinics for mental health and addictions operate in the communities of Inverness, New Waterford, Glace Bay, and North Sydney. Other services include: seniors’ mental health, community outreach teams, clozapine and depot clinics, consult service for adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, consultation with medical units and emergency department and full Child and Adolescent clinical service.

    The department provides 24/7 on-call coverage to the inpatient mental health units and emergency department. They provide in-house consult from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and phone consult after hours. The emergency department in Cape Breton is supported by an Emergency Crisis Team of mental health social workers and nurses from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

    The OR has a new Zeiss microscope with Callisto Eye system for Premium IOLs, an Alcon phaco machine and an outstanding surgical support staff.  There is one full day per week of OR time available for local procedures.     The Eastern Zone has an opportunity for a full time Respirologist or a General Internist with interests in Respirology. Based in Antigonish, the internal medicine group currently includes a gastroenterologist, three general internists and has had a well-established respirology presence.  Inpatient call is equally shared and includes coverage of a 6-bed ICU. St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Specialists enjoy collegial relationships with family physicians who often cover their own patients in hospital and with the local complement of specialists including an extremely supportive radiology department. The hospital has had a presence in the community for over 100 years and has a strong reputation for compassionate care, concern for the vulnerable, and dedication to truly doing what is best for the patient – even when creative solutions are needed.

    Respirology Highlights:
    The outpatient respirology catchment area includes referrals from Truro to Inverness, and outreach clinics are at the discretion of the specialist.  Services include bronchoscopy, pulmonary function test and sleep study interpretation. Collaboration with the thoracic surgery team facilitates work-up and management of lung cancer; and the practice has historically included a clinical focus on COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, and cancer. Participation in the internal medicine call schedule is expected, and teaching of medical students and/or residents is at the discretion of the physician.
    Payment is fee-for-service, plus call stipends and incentives as per the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia. Clinic space is available in continuity with the hospital at low cost, with physicians having autonomous outpatient practice according to the schedule of their choice.  Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible to be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.  Support is available for site visits and relocation.

    We are recruiting for a General Radiologist to join the Nova Scotia Health Authority, Northern Zone team at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre (CRHCC) located in Amherst. The CRHCC has CT, ultrasound, x-ray, fluoroscopy, and mammography services. In addition there are 3 small community facilities providing x-ray services nearby which are covered by the CRHCC group through teleradiology. On-call duties are shared with two other regional hospital sites. Procedures are limited to breast biopsy, thyroid FNA and similar. Remuneration is fee-for-service with bonuses available for on-call work.

    Qualifications Include:
    Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physician and Surgeons of Nova Scotia; Doctorate in Medicine and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC).

    Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Addictions team seeks a full time Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work in the Cape Breton Area, based in Sydney.

    Program details:

This role is based out of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital which has a 20 bed paediatric ward and a 12 cot level 2 NICU, with over 900 deliveries per year. We are affiliated with the IWK Children’s Hospital (Halifax), which provides travelling sub-specialty clinics, telehealth grand rounds and an air transport program.
