Susan Spence is the Vice-Provost, Planning & Analytics at Dalhousie University. Her prior role at Dalhousie was Associate Dean, Health Systems and Policy, in the Faculty of Medicine. She has lived in Halifax and worked at Dalhousie for 18 years. A graduate of Queen’s University and the University of Ottawa, Susan’s background in academic health care and University management includes experience in senior operations management, policy development, quality assurance and strategic planning. In addition to Dalhousie, Susan has worked with the Government of Alberta, University of Alberta, the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre in Edmonton, St. Thomas’ Hospital in London England and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre at the University of Texas. Throughout her career, Susan has had significant roles in organizational projects which include the transition of mental health facilities to board-governed status, construction and commissioning activities as well as health care reform and governance restructuring. Susan has developed and delivered courses, workshops and presentations in a variety of areas including leadership, strategic planning and comparative health systems.
