Accreditation Canada awards Nova Scotia Health Accreditation with Commendation

Nova Scotia Health is proud to announce that Accreditation Canada has awarded the organization with Accreditation with Commendation.

This designation is given to organizations that went above and beyond the already high standards of the Accreditation program and are commended for their commitment to quality improvement.

Accreditation Canada is an independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards for quality and safety in health care and accredits health organizations in Canada and around the world.

In October, Nova Scotia Health welcomed more than 30 Accreditation Canada surveyors across the province to evaluate our organization against evidence-based standards related to quality and patient safety.

These standards examine the organization’s governance, leadership, risk management, infection prevention and control, and medication management measures, as well as the quality of care provided by the organization.

Overall, Nova Scotia Health met 95.6 per cent of Accreditation Canada criteria. This is an improvement from our previous survey in 2017.

“We all have reason to be very proud of our organization-wide achievement,” said Karen Oldfield, interim president and CEO of Nova Scotia Health. “We have delivered our best Accreditation performance as an organization despite the added pressures of COVID-19, system overcapacity, and multiple health care transformation initiatives. From the moment the surveyors arrived, they acknowledged our journey and applauded the enormous progress made.”
