VirtualCareNS providing convenient access to care for Canaan resident

Barrie MacGregor lives in Canaan with his wife, Sandra, and has been on the Need a Family Practice Registry for two years.
They enjoy being outdoors, living a healthy lifestyle, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
“When I received the email to join VirtualCareNS, I was a little bit skeptical at first,” Barrie recalled.
However, after speaking to a friend who used the service and had a positive experience, he decided to give it a try.
“Within an hour, from start to finish, I was able to connect with a doctor in Halifax, renew two prescriptions, get a requisition for bloodwork, and get a referral for a bone density test.”
He said that the service was easy to access, and he was able to video chat with a health care provider using his laptop at home.
Barrie explained that while virtual visits will never replace a traditional in-person visit with a physician, he was grateful to be able to access care quickly and conveniently from his own home.
People living in Northern and Western Nova Scotian communities who are registered with the Need a Family Practice Registry are being contacted to join VirtualCareNS, based on their date of registration.
VirtualCareNS will start to expand to communities in Eastern Nova Scotia and the central part of the province beginning in December.
