NEW DATE for telephone number change at Yarmouth & Roseway Hospitals

There is a new date to change telephone numbers at Yarmouth Regional (YRH) and Roseway Hospitals (RWH). The change, originally scheduled to happen this week has been pushed to November 4-5. This will allow more time to make sure everyone is prepared, and the phone number change goes as smoothly as possible.

Four-digit telephone extension numbers are being eliminated at YRH and RWH. Telephone numbers will change to a new 7-digit number for every phone line (+902). This means patients and the public can dial offices or departments directly – cutting out the need to call the hospital switchboard first and enter an extension number.

As of November 5, 2025:

New phone numbers at Yarmouth Regional Hospital will start with: (902) 746-_ _ _ _

New phone numbers at Roseway Hospital will start with: (902) 875-__ _ _

Some hospital telephone numbers will NOT change. For example, many doctor offices within Yarmouth Hospital have a (902)-742 or (902)-749 number for patients calling from outside the hospital. If you can already call a department or office directly, without entering a 4-digit extension, then it is likely these numbers will not change.

People who call the hospital regularly should ask staff, the next time they call, what the new telephone number will be.

Many hospitals in Nova Scotia are moving to the North American dialing system, eliminating site-based phone extensions and implementing 7-digit dialing. This change is being made now because of an issue of too many 911 calls made in error from Yarmouth Hospital. Roseway Hospital’s telephone system is integrated with Yarmouth, so the new 7-digit number system will be implemented at both sites at the same time.

Everyone is reminded they should always dial 911 in an emergency.
