Take the Community Health Board survey by January 31 to help improve health and wellness in your community

There’s still time to give your feedback to community health boards (CHBs) across Nova Scotia to help them develop their community health plans!

Since fall 2023, the 35 CHBs have been asking people to identify what factors impact the health and well-being of their communities. This includes social determinants of health which are factors outside the traditional health care system that affect a person’s health and wellness like income, housing, education, social supports, and more. They do not include things that are part of the traditional health care system like providing services, accessing care providers, recruiting health care professionals, etc. This community input, along with data and evidence, will be used to develop the CHBs’ community health plans.

CHBs are encouraging people to share their input through a quick survey. People can find the survey by visiting www.engageCHBs.ca and going to their health zone’s specific page or by calling 1-844-983-1240 to provide their input. The survey is open until January 31, 2024.

CHBs are volunteer groups that support a health promotion or population health-based approach to wellness. They have a legislated mandate to develop community health plans every five years. These plans identify priorities and health promotion initiatives that can improve the health and wellness of their communities. Community health plans also guide the work of the CHBs and are shared with Nova Scotia Health and the IWK Health Centre to be considered during their business planning.
