    The East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) works in partnership with the Departments of Health and Justice. This is the first time in Canada that both a Hospital and Correctional Facility are co-located to make the most efficient use of shared resources and services. Both facilities are independently operated and managed such that correctional inmates and forensic clients are separate at all times. The ECFH is unique within the Nova Scotia Health Authority in that that the people it serves come strictly from the judicial system. There are two rehabilitation units with 30 beds each and a 24 bed Mentally Ill Offender Unit where court ordered assessments are performed and treatment is provided to offenders diagnosed with mental illness. The ECFH also manages the Provincial Sex Offender Program and provides primary health care to the province’s corrections population through the Offender Health Services Program.

    Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital serves a population of approximately 5,000 people locally between the communities of Dean Settlement, to Meaghers Grant to Dutch Settlement, as well as neighbouring communities. This Collaborative Emergency Centre (CEC) is open 12 hours a day, seven days a week (8:00am to 8:00pm) for routine, urgent, and emergency care. Citizens call to make a same-day CEC appointment; please note this is not a walk-in clinic. During the evening (8:00pm to 8:00am), citizens access urgent and emergency care by calling 911. Paramedics provide treatment in the home, arrange follow-up care the next day in the CEC or transport to the closest, most appropriate medical facility, depending on patient need. There are six in-patient beds where patients with stable conditions are admitted. There is limited diagnostic testing available; Lab and X-ray provide walk-in service. It is also home to a diabetes management centre as well as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, home care nursing and social work services. The Musquodoboit Valley Family Practice is located on-site. As well, attached to the hospital, Braeside Nursing Home is a 29 bed facility.

    All Saints Springhill Hospital (ASSH), located on Princess Street in the historic former mining town of Springhill, has been serving the community on the same site since 1893. The original cottage hospital was replaced in 1963 with the current facility with the present building having undergone a number of renovations and upgrades since that time to meet changing health care needs. ASSH currently provides ten restorative care beds based on an interdisciplinary, goal-oriented rehabilitative program aimed at restoring patients to their optimum level of function following surgery, etc. There are eight transitional care beds for patients awaiting placement in long term care as well as two palliative care beds. The facility also has a 10-bed inpatient addictions treatment program as well as an outpatient addictions programs. ASSH is home to a Collaborative Emergency Centre or CEC that provides 24/7/365 urgent and emergent care as well as primary health care services provided by physicians and nurse practitioners. Various ambulatory care clinics, outpatient restorative care and health promotion services are supported by diagnostic services. All Saints is also home to our Seniors Health Centre.

The new addition has a beautiful view of Advocate Harbour which is much enjoyed by residents and staff alike.
