The Nova Scotia Sisterhood is a free program that welcomes women and gender-diverse individuals from the African Nova Scotian and Black community, aged 19 and older, to access culturally competent healthcare to improve their health and wellbeing.
This all-Black team of female healthcare professionals includes:
Family Doctors and a Nurse Practitioner who provide medical care and assist in managing ongoing health conditions
A Clinical Therapist to provide therapy and support in addressing mental health challenges
A Family Practice Nurse to perform simple procedures (Pap tests, injections, blood pressure checks, STI screening, ear flushing, etc.)
A Wellness Navigator to help patients get connected to external health and community resources
A Registered Dietitian who provides nutrition counselling and education
A Community Liaison who develops partnerships with community groups to bring health-related programs and services into local communities
Areas of focus:
Heart disease and high blood pressure
Diabetes
Screening for health conditions (e.g., STBBIs, cervical cancer, breast cancer)
Mental health and addictions
Nutrition and physical activity
Health promotion and wellness education
Providing health information specific to Black women
Our services are limited to Nova Scotia Health’s Central Zone and a valid provincial health card is required to access our services.
The Family Doctor operates clinics every Wednesday at rotating sites. Our new Nurse Practitioner sees patients for medical appointments Tuesday – Friday.

Tips for pelvic floor health.

Good Food Box Program
The Good Food Box Program provides fresh fruits and vegetables to our community at a low cost, generously supplied by the North End Community Health Centre. Each $8 (or pay-what-you-can) order includes a large bag of produce.
Pick-up on February 5-6 at 230 Wyse Road, Dartmouth (Sisterhood & Brotherhood Clinic).
