Having family members who struggled with mental health and addiction issues has had a big influence on Sabrina Eichhorn’s career path.

Sabrina has dedicated her entire professional life to supporting mental health, turning personal experience into purposeful work.

“Growing up in that environment kind of facilitated what I ended up doing in the long run,” Sabrina says, adding “I grew up around it, so it’s always been part of my world, that environment shaped who I became and what I chose to do.”

Sabrina works as an administrative assistant in the Mental Health and Addictions Program, where she’s been since 2018. She currently supports the director of the newly established Community Wellness and Supports portfolio which works with individuals, communities, and partners to providing low-barrier, accessible services for those at risk of or experiencing mild to moderate mental health and substance use concerns.

It’s a place where Sabrina says she feels like she’s making a difference.

“I like interacting with multi-disciplinary teams and being able to see and help with the recovery and healing of not just the individual, but their families and their community and how it all helps shape our program.”

Sabrina says to be a successful administrative professional, you need to be able to work on the fly, be adaptable, flexible, organized, and approachable.

She suggests reaching out to others in a similar role if it’s a career that interests you.

“Try to make connections with people who are in a field that you’d like to work in and ask questions. Connecting is important, Sabrina advises, to ensure it’s the right fit for you.
