Changes to hospital entrance screening at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow
Starting March 9, 2026, a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered weapons detection system will be used at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. These measures are being introduced to enhance safety and security for all patients, visitors and hospital staff.
The technology will be in place at the main entrance (facing East River Road) and emergency department entrance. There will be no public access through other doors. Any item that is classified as a weapon, resembles a weapon or is reasonably deemed capable of being used as a weapon, will not be allowed inside.
Security will be present to answer any questions or address concerns about navigating the new safety process. AI technology will not adversely affect people with medical devices.
How to prepare:
- Allow extra time for your visit to account for the new screening process. Arriving 10–15 minutes earlier than usual is recommended, particularly if you have an appointment.
- Avoid bringing non-essential items, especially large bags or backpacks. This will minimize wait times and help everyone enter more quickly.
- Have your belongings ready to be checked and cooperate with staff to keep the process efficient and respectful.
- Prohibited items (i.e. firearms, brass knuckles) will be confiscated and may be turned over to police.
We appreciate your cooperation as we enhance safety and security for everyone.
