Eastern Zone Public Health offering catch-up and meningitis B vaccines for new grads
Public Health is helping youth and new high school graduates in Eastern Zone access free, routine vaccines this summer. Drop-in clinics will be offered across the zone, giving youth a chance to catch up on childhood and Grade 7 immunizations, and recent graduates an opportunity to receive the meningitis B vaccine if they are eligible.
Youth can catch up on most routine vaccines for free until they turn 19, and HPV vaccines until they turn 21.
Many students entering post-secondary health programs, joining the military or starting work in health-related fields will be required to show their vaccination records and be fully immunized.
Two doses of meningococcal B vaccination are free and recommended for people aged 25 and under who are:
- entering post-secondary education and will be living in a congregate setting operated by a post-secondary institution (like a residence or dormitory) for the first time
- a military recruit who will be living in a congregate setting (like military barracks) for the first time
During these clinics, Public Health will review the youth’s vaccination records and determine what vaccines they are eligible to receive.
Youth who require a second dose of a vaccine series are also encouraged to attend these clinics to ensure they are fully protected.
