Update on Cape Breton Regional Hospital Water Leak

Nova Scotia Health’s response to a flood yesterday at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital continues.

Facilities Management & Support, Environmental Services and Infection Prevention & Control continue to assess the situation. Updates as of this afternoon include;

Third floor:

  • Some physician offices remain closed. Work is underway to identify temporary space. Affected patients will be contacted.
  • One operating room was closed for repair but has been cleared to reopen. Any scheduled surgeries for the rest of the week will continue.
  • Prenatal clinic space continues to be affected; however appointments will continue elsewhere within the hospital or neighbouring health park. Affected patients will be contacted directly.

Second floor:

  • Clean up of administrative offices continues
  • Elevators 5, 6, 9, & 10 remain closed.

In an effort to support clean up throughout the hospital, one atrium on the third floor will be closed. However, this will not impede access to patients or services.

Nova Scotia Health continues to thank its staff, patients and caregivers for their patience as we navigate this challenging situation.
