NOTE: The Colon Cancer Prevention Program uses Canada Post to deliver screening kits. While Canada Post is in contract negotiations, Colon Cancer Prevention Program participants have three options regarding completion of their kits.
- Mail the kit in the postage paid return envelope and if it does not make it to the lab in the allowable time, a replacement kit will automatically be sent to you.
- Wait to complete the kit until after the postal negotiations are resolved or;
- Deliver the completed kit to the South Shore Regional Hospital lab.
The Colon Cancer Prevention Program mails home screening kits to all Nova Scotians aged 50 to 74 with the goal of preventing cancer or finding it early when treatment is most effective. This ultimately decreases the number of Nova Scotians being diagnosed with and dying from colon cancer.

How do I access this program?
If you are a resident of Nova Scotia between the ages of 50 and 74 and have a valid MSI health card, you will automatically be mailed a kit. The kit will be mailed out just after your 50th birthday and then every two years following. This is sent automatically, you do not need to request one.
If you are not in this age range or have concerns or possible warning signs of colon cancer, please talk to your family doctor or health care provider about the right test for you.
