Tanya Penney brings over 20 years of progressive leadership experience across the Department of Health and Wellness and Nova Scotia Health, having spent most of her career in Nova Scotia’s health system. She is recognized for strong strategic and operational leadership with a focus on system accountability, patient flow and improving the overall patient experience.
Her background includes extensive experience working in emergency departments, followed by progressive leadership roles spanning Health Services Manager, Director and Senior Director. Most recently, Tanya served as Executive Director, Central Zone.
She holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dalhousie, a Certificate of Business Administration from Mount St Vincent, is a graduate of St Martha’s School of Nursing and has received the EXTRA Fellowship from the Canadian Federation of Health Improvement in 2021.
In addition to leading Western Zone Operations, Tanya is provincially responsible for Virtual Urgent and Emergency Care.
Tanya sits on the Board of Directors of the National Emergency Nurses Association and actively participates in cross provincial/jurisdictional initiatives.
