Free “Listen to Your Heart” Stethoscope Check event in Bedford
Bedford, N.S. – Nova Scotia Health and Heart Valve Voice Canada (HVVC) invite community members to attend a free public “Listen to Your Heart” stethoscope check event to have a stethoscope check from a healthcare professional and help raise awareness about heart valve disease.
Heart valve disease (HVD) is a serious but often underdiagnosed condition, especially in adults aged 60 and older. Early detection can make a life‑changing difference.
This is the third Stethoscope Check Event this group has hosted in Halifax. They have screened more than 375 people and detected 22 heart murmurs, resulting in 13 follow up echocardiograms and three detected cases of HVD.
Trained healthcare professionals will be onsite to provide free stethoscope checks for adults who do not have a pre‑existing heart condition. Participants will also receive educational resources about heart valve disease, including common symptoms, risk factors and available treatment options.
If a potential concern is detected, a physician will provide a requisition for follow‑up care. Any required follow‑up will be triaged and scheduled as needed.
