Nova Scotia Health seeks public input on new Sydney River Health Centre
As part of Nova Scotia Health's efforts to improve access to healthcare access, the Sydney River Health Centre will open in early 2025 and provide a range of services under one roof, delivering tailored care by the right healthcare provider, at the right time.
Understanding the most pressing healthcare needs of the community is a vital part of shaping how the centre will be set up. As a result, Nova Scotia Health wants to hear directly from local residents.
Who can participate?
Cape Breton Regional Municipality residents with experience accessing healthcare services such as Primary Health Care, Hip and Knee, Heart and Lung, Diabetic Clinic, Community Rehab, Community Palliative Care and Continuing Care. Those interested can apply online here. The number of sessions will be limited, so applications may be vetted to ensure a diverse population is represented.
What does participation involve?
Those selected will have the chance to participate in one-on-one sessions, as well as larger focus groups, to share what is working well, and where there are opportunities for improving access. Your feedback will influence the development of how the Sydney River Health Centre operates.
How will we collect feedback?
During the sessions, participants will take a facilitator through their journey of accessing healthcare. Sessions can last between one and two hours.
When and where will these sessions take place?
The first round of one-on-one sessions will take place at the Sydney Riverview Y-Service Club, 54 Riverdale Dr., Sydney, Wednesday, September 18 to Saturday, September 21. Successful applicants will be contacted by email to schedule their session. Based on the initial collection of feedback, participants may have the option to attend larger focus group sessions to be held in October.
