After Hours Clinics provide non-emergency primary care in the evenings/and or weekends. Clinics may operate differently depending on where they are located in the province.

What to bring

When attending the After Hours Clinic please remember your health card, a list of medications along with dosages and any allergies you may have.

Fees

If you do not have a valid health card or are not a resident of Canada there is a cost associated with your visit. Please check with the clinic when you register. 

You may be asked to pay a facility fee. This rate does NOT include the doctor’s fees. You could be billed directly by the doctor and doctor’s fees may vary by location. Learn more about Nova Scotia Health fees and bill payments.

*While operated by physicians, the clinics are located within Nova Scotia Health facilities.

Dartmouth South After Hours Clinic

This clinic forms a group of local primary care providers (family doctor or nurse practitioner) who rotate to provide care to each other’s patients after hours, on evenings or weekends. These clinics are only available to patients who belong to the primary care providers who are participating. Patients must book appointments by calling the clinic. No walk-in patients are accepted.

This clinic provides same day and next day appointments.  Call 1-833-710-0110 Monday to Friday starting at 8:00 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m., until all appointments are filled.

This clinic provides non-emergency after hours care to anyone in New Waterford area. 

Call 902-862-2740 after 4:00pm on Tuesday or Thursday to make a same-day appointment.

The Shelburne Same Day Clinic is for people with or without a primary care provider.
 
Same Day Clinic can help treat non-urgent health issues and is not an emergency service. Types of concerns that it may address include:

  • Prescription refills or renewals (except for controlled substances)
  • Minor respiratory symptoms                                         
  • Sore throat
  • Earaches                                                                  
  • Fever
  • Headache                                                                
  • Rashes
  • Minor gastrointestinal concerns (vomiting and diarrhea)
  • Cough, flu, or cold symptoms                        
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Muscle pain


People with a primary care provider are reminded that they should go to their provider first when seeking care.

Patients must book appointments by calling the clinic. No walk-in patients are accepted.

Call 902-527-5239 on Monday mornings to book an appointment. The phone will be answered at 8:30 a.m. until the appointments are full.

You will be given the next available appointment in the After Hours Clinic for the week.  Once the clinic is full for the week you will be directed on when to call to book appointments for the following week.

New Health Information System

Nova Scotia Health's new One Person One Record system has rolled out at facilities in the Halifax Regional and West Hants municipalities, and some provincial Mental Health and Addictions Program services.
