The term "movement disorders" refers to a group of nervous system (neurological) conditions that affect speed and coordination of movement. Movement disorders include conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Essential Tremor, and Dystonia, among others.
Our services include consultation with a Movement Disorder Neurologist, Huntington’s Disease multidisciplinary care clinic, advanced therapies for persons with Parkinson’s disease (e.g. Deep Brain Stimulation, Duodopa, Apomorphine etc.), Parkinson’s disease multidisciplinary care clinic, botulinum toxin injections for a subset of neurologic conditions, and access to movement disorder nursing expertise.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Bring a list of all of the medications you take, including over-the-counter medications (bought without a prescription), vitamins, and supplements.
Write down any concerns or questions you may have regarding your symptoms.
Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early to find parking and register for your appointment
What can I expect at my appointment?
During your first visit, the doctor will do a full neurological assessment and medical history.
As the Clinic is part of NSHA and Dalhousie University, you may also be seen by medical students or doctors in training.
You may also be asked if you would like to take part in clinical research projects pertaining to Movement Disorders. This is voluntary. The care you receive will not be affected by whether or not you choose to take part.
You may be referred to other specialists or health disciplines care plan ( e.g. physiotherapy, Continuing Care, Geriatric Day Hospital)
Will there be any follow up after my visit?
Follow up will be discussed between you and your Neurologist.
