Building momentum in obesity care: 2nd Annual Truro Obesity Symposium brings together experts from across Nova Scotia
More than 130 health professionals gathered in Truro on Sept. 26 for the 2nd Annual Truro Obesity Symposium — an inspiring day of collaboration, learning and innovation. The event drew participants from Yarmouth to Cape Breton, representing surgeons, internists, primary care providers and allied health professionals, all united by one goal: improving care for people living with obesity.
The symposium featured expert-led sessions and interactive discussions in which attendees examined cutting-edge research, innovative clinical strategies, and the latest advances in bariatric medicine and surgery. A keynote address by Dr. Stephen Glazer from the University of Toronto delivered practical, evidence-based insights that inspired forward-thinking dialogue on recognizing and managing obesity as a chronic disease.
“The symposium was a valuable opportunity to connect, collaborate and advance our shared mission,” said Dr. Ahmed Jad, who organized the event. “Together, we’re continuing to strengthen care pathways and ensure people living with obesity receive the support they need.”
The event also recognized leadership from across the Northern Zone for their unwavering commitment to advancing obesity care and their innovative efforts to enhance accessibility and the patient experience.
With strong engagement and overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, the event highlighted the importance of treating obesity as a chronic disease. Building on last year’s success, the symposium continues to energize teams and expand the impact of obesity care across Nova Scotia — one conversation, one collaboration and one patient at a time.
