Rinse Charming and Lady Dryana made a royal appearance at All Saints Springhill Hospital on May 5, as staff, officials, and community partners gathered to celebrate the grand opening of a fully renovated laundry department.

With fresh air flowing and brand-new machines humming, it was a proud moment.

“It’s so much better,” says Brenda Langille with over 16 years of experience working at the site. “The air is cooler, the space is brighter, and the machines are easier to use. It makes a real difference.”

The new layout improves workflow and creates a safer, more comfortable place to work to make sure linens are clean, comfortable and ready for patients, families and care teams.

Nova Scotia Health and the Department of Health and Wellness invested nearly $1 million to fully renovate the laundry department, which serves both All Saints Springhill Hospital and Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. The project wrapped up on time and was under budget.

Aging washers and dryers have been replaced with high-efficiency models that support bigger loads, smoother workflows and a safer, more comfortable work environment.

To add some fun to the upgrade, staff held a contest to name the machines. Over 60 people entered, and winners received gift cards. Names, such as Soaps & Giggles, Spin’derella, and Meryl Sheets, are now printed on the machines for all to see.

This project recognizes the vital role laundry plays in healthcare. It celebrates the people who keep care moving one load at a time and not just the machines.
