Parking

There is no fee for patient visitor parking. The parking lot entrances are located on University Ave. and South Park St.

Staff can access free parking at designated lots (see below). Due to limited on-site parking during busy times (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.), staff who park on-site in patient-designated areas during peak hours will be charged $6 per hour with no daily maximum. Free on-site parking is available Monday to Friday after 2:30 p.m., as well as during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Garrison Ground and College Street lots: Beginning May 1, Garrison Grounds and College Street lots will be free for staff Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • A free staff shuttle is available from the Garrison Grounds lot Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Free parking is available for staff on a first-come, first-served basis.

Validation process: Patients and visitors will receive a validation ticket to leave gated lots at QEII without paying. Tickets will be available at information desks and registration kiosks. Where kiosk registration isn’t necessary, rebate tickets will be given out by clerical staff in their respective clinics.

At the QEII emergency departments, validation tickets will be provided to patients and visitors by security personnel.

Summer Street parkade: Carpooling spaces will no longer be available for staff.

Parking on street: Free parking does not apply to metered parking on the streets surrounding our CZ sites.

OPT program:

Option 1: Staff who pledge to use active and/or sustainable transportation—including walking, biking, scootering, or carpooling—to and from work at least three times a week receive five free taxi vouchers from Halifax Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home Program. You can register for OPT - Option 1 on Compass.

Option 2: Public transportation: The Halifax Transit Epass is now available at a discounted rate of $25/month*, beginning June 1. This is paid through payroll deductions or monthly pre-authorized debit payments. Staff who pledge to use public transportation to and from work at least three times a week receive five free taxi vouchers from Halifax Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home Program. You can register for OPT – Option 2 on Compass.

*QEII staff already enrolled in the OPT Program will receive the new rate automatically and do not need to register again.

We sincerely appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we finalize parking details at each site.  Please refer to this frequently asked questions document for more information.
