The cardiac surgery division of the Maritime Heart Centre is located in the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre on Robie Street in central Halifax. Surgeons that work at the centre are responsible for patients from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (approximately 1.1 million people) They are also responsible for heart transplants and mechanical heart surgeries for all of Atlantic Canada (2.5 million people).

To see a cardiac surgeon you must be referred by your family doctor, a specialist, or an internist.

Cardiac surgery patients have two intake offices - both located in the Queen Elizabeth II Science Centre in Halifax. The cardiac surgery clinic is on the second floor (above the Summer Street entrance) and hospital general reception is located at the Robie street entrance.

New Health Information System

Nova Scotia Health's new One Person One Record system will begin rolling out on May 9 at facilities in the Halifax Regional and West Hants municipalities, and some provincial Mental Health and Addictions Program services.
