The Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building houses restorative rehab and geriatric outpatient care. It is also the residence for Camp Hill Veterans’ Services Long Term Care.

Visiting Hours

Visitors are welcome through out the day except during a rest period between 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Parking

Underground parking is located off Veterans Memorial Lane. A parking fee will be charged when you exit the parking lot. You can pay for parking with cash or a credit card. 

There is also a parking lot with meters on Summer St.

Parking

To support resident pick up and drop off, there is short-term parking (20 min or less) available in front of the building. 

For visits, there is a parking garage under the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building located off Veterans’ Memorial Lane, closest to Robie Street. The exit from the garage is at the far end of the parking garage and exits onto Summer Street.  You can pay* for parking by cash or credit card.

*Each resident can receive a permit for one family member to have unlimited free parking in the parking garage under the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. The application can be obtained from the unit clerk. The completed application must then be taken to the parking office in the Robie Street parking garage (directly across from the Robie Street entrance to the Halifax Infirmary). This office is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will fill out a permit and receive an access card.

There is also a parking lot with meters on Summer St.

Free Shuttle Service

Patients and families who are mobile and need transportation between the Victoria General (VG) and Halifax Infirmary (HI) sites are welcome to take the QEII shuttle.

We make every effort to make sure your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. Patients requiring semi-private or private rooms for medical reasons always have priority; however, private or semi-private rooms may be available on request.

Room Types  
Private room: $175 per day - Includes one bed and one washroom.  
      
Semi-private room: $155 per day - Includes two beds separated by curtains and one washroom.

Space in our private and semi-private rooms is limited. The sooner we have your insurance information the more likely we are to be able to accommodate your request.

When the booking clerk calls with your hospital admission date, let them know you are interested in a private or semi-private room.

When you are admitted, be sure to have your private insurance card with you and let the admitting clerk know you have requested a private or semi-private room.

TV and Phone in your room

TV Service   
Bedside TV service is available at no charge if you request, receive and pay for a private or semi-private room either personally or by using your private health insurance.  If you do not have private health insurance, the following rates apply:

  • Premium TV: $12.45 per day plus taxes

Please note: A portion of the revenues generated is returned to the hospital to help fund various hospital improvements.

 How to set up bedside TV service

  • To activate your television, just dial 2999 from your bedside telephone.
  • A customer service representative is available every day between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to address any questions or concerns, receive cash payment and process your request.

Phone Service

During your stay in hospital, you have the option of activating your bedside phone service. 

How to connect, transfer or disconnect your phone

  • Dial 499 from your bedside telephone and a BellAliant representative will arrange to have your telephone service connected, transferred to another bed, or disconnected.
  • BellAliant’s office is open Monday to Saturday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., except holidays. 
  • If you have questions about the service, please call 1-800-760-8969. 
  • When you are discharged remember to dial 499 to request that your phone be disconnected so that billing is stopped.
  • If you forget to request your hospital phone disconnected before discharged to home, call 1-800-760-8969 Monday to Saturday between 8:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. to arrange disconnection.

Service and Connection Rates

  • There is a $10 connection charge to set up in-hospital phone service. 
  • The following fees also apply:
    • $2 per day for the first 15 days
    • $1.25 per day for each additional day up to and including 30 days
    • $0.75 for each day after 30 days 

Billing

  • Daily service and connection charges are billed to your BellAliant home telephone account. 
  • If you are with another provider, BellAliant will create a separate account for the duration of your hospital stay. 
  • Your bill can be paid the same way you would pay any other BellAliant bill.

During your stay at the hospital, you will receive breakfast, lunch and supper daily. 

You can choose from a variety of options each day. The menus typically include: 

  • Breakfast: An assortment of homemade muffins, hot and cold cereals, yogurt and fruit, coffee or tea. 
  • Lunch: Choose from soup and sandwiches, mixed vegetables, pasta and casseroles, including dessert of fresh fruit or a sweet. 
  • Supper: Options include meat, fish, potatoes and vegetables.   

 If you follow a special diet or have food-related allergies or sensitivities, let us know when you arrive.

The procedure for ordering meals will be further discussed on admission by dietetic technicians. If you need help filling out your menu, or feel you or your family member may be unable fill out the menus daily, please talk to the dietetic technicians.

Bank Machines

There is a bank machine located in the lobby of the Veterans Memorial Building. In addition, there are two other bank machines located in the Halifax Infirmary Building. One is located in Summer Street lobby, and the other is located in the Robie Street lobby.

The majority of the rooms at Camp Hill are assigned to veterans. Veterans Affairs Canada determines the eligibility for veterans to live at Camp Hill and maintains the wait-list for admission. To determine eligibility for Camp Hill, veterans or families are encouraged to contact Veterans Affairs Canada at 1-866-522-2122

Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building is a licensed, provincial long-term care facility and there are some rooms that are available for provincial residents. Individuals interested in being on the wait-list for placement in a provincial long-term care facility, including Camp Hill, are encouraged to contact Continuing Care at 1-800-225-7225.

The PATH outpatient clinic at the Geriatric Ambulatory Care Clinic in the Veterans’ Memorial Building is open to clients and their caregivers who:

  • have advanced or progressive illnesses;
  • have had multiple hospital admissions or uncontrolled symptoms;
  • have experienced a progressive decline in mobility, function, or cognition;
  • have a dedicated caregiver/family member; and/or
  • are interested in receiving more information about their anticipated future health and options for integrating a palliative approach into their existing therapies.

The PATH may not be for everyone. Clients or caregivers who do not wish to receive information about current and future health, or who do not wish to contemplate future health care decisions should not be referred to PATH.

Volunteers at Camp Hill

Camp Hill is fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who provide wonderful support to the residents who live here.


Along with proper identification, volunteers wear red vests to enhance their visibility to residents, family members and staff.


The Volunteer Services Department is on the main floor of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, room 1523. It is open from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.
