The Nova Scotia Sisterhood is a free program that welcomes women and gender-diverse individuals from the African Nova Scotian and Black community, aged 19 and older, to access culturally competent healthcare to improve their health and wellbeing.
This all-Black team of female healthcare professionals includes:
Family Doctors and a Nurse Practitioner who provide medical care and assist in managing ongoing health conditions
A Clinical Therapist to provide therapy and support in addressing mental health challenges
A Family Practice Nurse to perform simple procedures (Pap tests, injections, blood pressure checks, STI screening, ear flushing, etc.)
A Wellness Navigator to help patients get connected to external health and community resources
A Registered Dietitian who provides nutrition counselling and education
A Community Liaison who develops partnerships with community groups to bring health-related programs and services into local communities
Areas of focus:
Heart disease and high blood pressure
Diabetes
Screening for health conditions (e.g., STBBIs, cervical cancer, breast cancer)
Mental health and addictions
Nutrition and physical activity
Health promotion and wellness education
Providing health information specific to Black women
Our services are limited to Nova Scotia Health’s Central Zone and a valid provincial health card is required to access our services.
Our family doctors offer appointments on Tuesdays at the Dr. Maria Angwin Memorial – Wyse Road Health Clinic and on Wednesdays (at rotating clinic sites). Our nurse practitioner offers appointments Tuesdays to Friday.
Join the Nova Scotia Sisterhood on June 22nd at 6:00 p.m. (AST) for a free presentation for the Black community, offered in partnership with the Heart & Stroke Foundation, to learn about resources that support heart and brain health.
Learn about the Heart & Stroke Risk Screen tool, the signs of stroke (F.A.S.T.), risk factors and indicators unique to Black individuals, Heart & Stroke resources, and advocacy initiatives.

The Nova Scotia Sisterhood, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Breast Screening Program, offers mammogram (breast cancer screening) appointments for Sisterhood patients, aged 40 and older.
Monthly appointments available at the Halifax Shopping Centre and Dartmouth General Hospital, and *NEW* Mobile Unit appointments will take place at the North Preston Community Centre, September 24 and 25, 2026. View the flyer.

Nova Scotia Sisterhood screening mammogram eligibility requirements: - African Nova Scotian/Black woman or gender-diverse individual - Aged 40-49: First mammogram or at least 1 year since last mammogram - Aged 50+: First mammogram or at least 2 years since last mammogram* - No new breast symptoms - No breast implants - No personal history of breast cancer - Resident of Canada with valid provincial health card
*Individuals aged 50 or older are eligible for yearly mammograms if they have increased risk factors (e.g., close family history of breast cancer). Please speak to our nurse to see if you qualify for yearly mammograms.

Good Food Box Program
The Good Food Box Program provides fresh fruits and vegetables to our community at a low cost, generously supplied by the North End Community Health Centre. Each $8 (or pay-what-you-can) order includes a large bag of produce.
Pick-up on July 8 (1:00 – 6:30 pm) and July 9 (9:00 - 4:00 p.m) at 230 Wyse Road, Dartmouth (Sisterhood & Brotherhood Clinic).
